  1st digit : GM division

    1 = Chevrolet.
    2 = Pontiac.

  2nd digit (2nd and 3rd number): series

    23 = Firebird.

  3rd digit (4th and 5th number): body type

    37 = Sport coupe.
    67 = Convertible.

  4th digit: year

    7 = 1967        8 = 1968       9 = 1969

  5th digit: build place

    U = Lordstown (Ohio).
    L = Los Angeles/Van Nuys (Californie).
    N = Norwood (Ohio).

  6th digit (the last 6 numbers): serial number

    number start at 100001 for V8 engine and 600001 for the 6 cylinder
